It was on this day 11 years ago that Liverpool fans witnessed a terrific hat-trick at Carrow Road.
That hat-trick was of course scored by the irrepressible Luis Suarez, who bagged three trebles against Norwich City during his years at Liverpool.
Commemorating the second of those displays today, the Reds’ official Twitter account posted highlights of Suarez’s three goals.
Obviously grateful to re-live a super day for himself, Suarez himself popped up in the comments.
“Unforgettable,” wrote the Uruguayan, with a hands-making-heart emoji, too. One of the best to ever do it.
It was on this day that Liverpool fans perhaps realised just what a special player they had in Suarez.
He’d done pretty well during his first 18 months as a Red, but the 2012/13 season was when the then 25-year-old really came into his own.
His hat-trick against Norwich was the signal that something special was brewing in the Liverpool No.7 shirt. Suarez went on to bag 23 Premier League goals that season, and 30 in all competitions.
From then on in the former Ajax man was a goal-scoring machine. That he wasn’t able to drag Liverpool over the line to a Premier League trophy is a major regret. He deserved to.
In the years since his departure in 2014, Suarez has allowed himself to become something of a villain for Reds fans. His celebrations after scoring against Liverpool for Barcelona in 2019 haven’t been forgotten by some.
But that shouldn’t obscure the fact that he’s always spoken very fondly indeed of his time at Anfield.
The Gremio striker gave it his all every time he pulled on a Liverpool shirt – and especially against Norwich! This little message is a clear sign that Suarez still has the Reds in his heart. For those who are yet to do so, it’s time to forgive and forget.
