Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez will need another round of surgery to fix an ongoing metatarsal issue from last season.

That setback in April ended the centre-back’s season and now, he might not be back again until 2024. Meanwhile, Ten Hag has given an update on the selection availability of Antony.

On Saturday, the winger trained back at United for the first time since his period of absence amid allegations of abuse against women, claims he strongly denies. He could be in contention for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Galatasaray.

With one eye on the January window, meanwhile, Juventus star Federico Chiesa is supposedly drumming up “interest” from United after the club spent £180million-plus on Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund this summer.

Elsewhere, a fresh report on Monday night has claimed Sir Jim Ratcliffe is weighing up aiming to buy a minority stake in the Reds to try and end the Glazers’ deadlock.

Ratcliffe mulls over new approach

According to Sky News, INEOS chief Ratcliffe is weighing up a move for a minority stake in United rather than buying the club fully outright.

Ratcliffe has proposed a move to buy shares from the Glazer family and take a 25 per cent stake in the club to try and end in the deadlock.

It is suggested INEOs would need to spend £1.5bn to acquire these shares from the Glazers.
