Liverpool has so far not done any business in January in terms of incomings but that could change in the final weeks of the transfer window. There is still time if the right deal presents itself. With his side into the latter stages of three cup competitions and sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League, it would appear there is no need for Jürgen Klopp to strengthen his squad before the end of the month. But the Liverpool boss has proven in the past that January additions can make all the difference in the quest for silverware and this season may prove to…
With his prospects of making England’s Euro 2024 squad very much under threat, ex-Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is leaving Saudi Arabia. On Thursday, the free agent was due in Amsterdam to undergo a medical with Dutch giant Ajax and sign a two-and-a-half-year deal in a move that he hopes will revive his career. When Henderson controversially left Anfield to join Al-Ettifaq last summer, he spoke about wanting to grow the Pro League under the tutelage of manager and former teammate Steven Gerrard. “It was all about what we could do together to achieve something special and build a club and…
As Jordan Henderson closes in on a move to Ajax from Al-Ettifaq, a quirk in his contract in Saudi Arabia means he may not earn a penny for his time there. The most poorly handled transfer in many years, Henderson’s controversial switch from Liverpool to Al-Ettifaq last summer has proved a disaster. Now, the 33-year-old has agreed to terminate his contract with the Saudi Pro League club and is heading to the Eredivisie with Ajax instead. Henderson is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday before signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Dutch club. The midfielder will take a significant cut on…
Steven Gerrard has reportedly signed a two-year contract extension at Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ettifaq. The Liverpool legend took charge of the Middle Eastern side in July 2023, though has endured a tough start to life in his new job with some reports in recent weeks claiming he was at risk of getting sacked. Al-Ettifaq are currently stuck in eighth place in the division standings, some 28 points behind leaders Al-Hilal. One of Gerrard’s marquee summer signings was the addition of Jordan Henderson, who now looks set to bring an early end to his time at Al-Ettifaq. Henderson is on the…
Liverpool will be without a number of key players heading down to Bournemouth on Sunday as they look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League. Three points on the south coast would see Jurgen Klopp’s side extend their lead over Manchester City to five points, albeit they will have played a game more than the champions. Klopp has lost both Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo to the Africa Cup of Nations and Asian Cup respectively, while Trent Alexander-Arnold has a knee injury. Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, Kostas Tsimikas and Joel Matip are long-term absentees. Dominik Szoboszlai, meanwhile, has previously hinted he…
Ben Jacobs confirmed the news in question on X (formerly Twitter), following Jacque Talbot’s exclusive reveal for Football Transfers this morning. The Reds had been understood to have held talks with Fluminense in the summer, only to be rebuffed on their interest – at the time in the middle of the Brazilian top-flight season. Liverpool could end up saving money Little did the fanbase know that both Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister would be fine options in the No.6 role – such to an extent that many bemoaned the former’s temporary absence for the Asian Cup this January. But…
Just six months after arriving in the middle east. The Brazilian is looking to return to Europe. As you can imagine, this news out of the Firmino camp has led to plenty of speculation around where he should go next. The Brazilian has been linked to the likes of Chelsea and Fulham, and, inevitably, there has been some chat about a fairytale return to Liverpool. However, according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on The Done Deal Show, there isn’t much to the idea of Firmino coming back to Anfield. Indeed, Jacobs says that sources at Liverpool are downplaying the idea of Firmino making a remarkable return.…
There are less than two weeks remaining in the January transfer window and it’s been relatively quiet for Liverpool so far. Jurgen Klopp has resisted the temptation to splash the cash in the mid-season window, with returning loanees the only movement so far. Fabio Carvalho was recalled from RB Leipzig and then immediately loaned to Hull and Rhys Williams came back from Aberdeen, only to be sent to Port Vale. Meanwhile, Calvin Ramsay (Preston), Nat Phillips (Celtic), Owen Beck (Dundee), James Balagizi (Wigan) and Billy Koumetio (USL Dunkerque) have all returned to Merseyside for the time being, although they could…
Liverpool returns to Premier League action this weekend after its brief winter break, with Jürgen Klopp unlikely to be able to field many more options than he had for the Reds’ previous game against Fulham in the Carabao Cup. Up next comes fixtures with Bournemouth, Chelsea and Arsenal in the league, but there are also clashes with Fulham (Carabao Cup second leg) and Norwich City (FA Cup fourth round) to come. The calendar, for a team still in all competitions that it entered at the start of the campaign, remains pretty hectic and congested. And amid the games continuing to come…
Jordan Henderson, the former Liverpool captain, is set to take a big pay cut to join Ajax. He’s reportedly set to become the highest earner at the Dutch club, even though his wages will be much less than what he was earning at his previous club, Al-Ettifaq. According to the Mirror, Ajax officials flew into Manchester on Wednesday to finalize an 18-month deal with Henderson, which includes the option of extending for another year. The 33-year-old midfielder is set to earn around $108k (£85k/€99k) per week, which could rise to $140k (£110,000/€128k) per week with bonuses. This would make him…
