The Red Devils were denied an opener earlier this month after a review lasting nearly four minutes at Craven Cottage. A free-kick was squared by Alejandro Garnacho to Scott McTominay, both onside, and the on-field decision was goal. However, Harry Maguire was deemed to be interfering with play from an offside position. The United defender did not touch the ball but made an attempt to play it – and VAR referred referee John Brooks to the screen for a subjective offside call. VAR audio of the incident was released on Tuesday night – and United fans were not convinced by…

Apart from the name he shares with the famous Star Trek actor, relatively little is known about Stewart. But he will be thrust into the spotlight when he becomes United’s interim chief executive following Richard Arnold’s…

With any luck, the announcement that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is taking an active role in running the sporting side of Man United won’t be too long in coming. Once that has been ratified and made official, the INEOS founder and his chosen staff members can get to work to ensure that things are done a little differently around Old Trafford. Inevitably, that’ll mean some incomings and outgoings in the transfer window and, whilst not a revolution as such, the evolution will be necessary if Erik ten Hag wants his team to enjoy a decent second half of the 2023/24 campaign.…

Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Chelsea could be hit with a points deduction as they face questions over potential financial fair play breaches during Roman Abramovich’s ownership. Abramovich sold the Stamford Bridge side to a Todd Boehly-led consortium in May 2022 after being hit with sanctions by the UK government following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The billionaire purchased Chelsea in 2003 and injected hundreds of millions of pounds that transformed the club as they won five Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, two Europa Leagues, five FA Cups, three League Cups, the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup. However, according to an investigation by…

One hundred and fifteen, that is the number of charges the Premier League filed against Man City back in February, which predominantly concern the club’s finances. The allegations have since been referred to an independent commission and City’s hiring of Lord Pannick KC as their defence lawyer, who has £10,000-an-hour rates, shows the severity of the case. So, as you can imagine, Wednesday’s news that saw City announce a revenue of £712.8million – a Premier League record – following their treble season, was met with a level of scrutiny. The report did not break down their commercial revenue, and at a…

There was a time when Liverpool fans would be out in force defending Jordan Henderson against other supporters deriding him for his place in the England squad. During his time at Anfield, the midfielder was regularly lambasted by rival fans for a perceived negative style of play. Nowadays though, you’re more likely to find Liverpool fans joining in on the chorus of perplexity, and with good reason. To use a TV analogy, Gareth Southgate has effectively jumped the shark at this…
