How do you improve the best defence in the Premier League? That was the question facing Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as he headed into this summer. For each of the last two seasons, Arsenal have had easily the best defensive record, conceding at least 15 goals fewer than any other team (63). It’s not really the most obvious area to try and improve, then, is it? But Arsenal finished second in both of those seasons and the one before that, and haven’t won a single trophy in that time. Eight other Premier League teams have won something of note in…
Noni Madueke will officially be announced as an Arsenal player on Tuesday. Madueke passed his Arsenal medical on Monday, which leaves just the official confirmation before he is no longer a Chelsea player. According to a number of sources, including Florian Plettenberg, Tuesday will be the day that Arsenal put out a statement confirming the transfer. Madueke to join Arsenal According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will pay Chelsea a fixed fee of €55 million with €5m in add-ons for the winger. The England international has accepted a five-year contract at the Emirates until 2030. News of Madueke’s imminent move has…
Arsenal are still yet to strike an agreement for Viktor Gyokeres. Andrea Berta remains in negotiations with Sporting CP over a deal for the Sweden international, who is doing everything he can to force through a move to the Emirates Stadium. Gyokeres has even given up £1.7m in wages in order to sign for Arsenal, although Sporting CP are standing firm, with Club President Frederico Varandas saying: “If they don’t want to pay Viktor’s fair market value, we’ll be very comfortable with that for the next three years. “If the geniuses who are devising this strategy think this puts pressure…
Noni Madueke is set to become the latest player to move directly between Chelsea and Arsenal. Despite being London rivals, the two clubs have shown a willingness to conduct business over the years. In the Premier League era alone, nine senior players have swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium. William Gallas was first to cross this particular divide 19 years ago and the trend has continued this summer with Kepa Arrizabalaga joining the Gunners in a £5m move to primarily act as an understudy to goalkeeper David Raya. The Spaniard is set to be joined in N5 by Madueke…
Sky Sports’ Paul Merson: “I am flabbergasted by Arsenal signing Noni Madueke. Are there concerns about the future of Saka? Are they getting this deal done and then all of a sudden it allows a potential sale of Saka or someone else.” In his latest column, Sky Sports’ Paul Merson dissects Arsenal’s transfer business so far, giving his verdict on the potential signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea… I am flabbergasted by Arsenal signing Noni Madueke. I’m shocked. If Arsenal went and bought any player from Chelsea, he’d have been the last one I thought they’d sign. I just don’t…
Closing in on finalising deals for Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera, as well as still eyeing a deal for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, Arsenal have opened the wallet this summer. Those additions, which will end up coming to a combined £120m before factoring in the possibility of having to pay the £68m release clause that Palace want to see triggered, come on the back of the signings of £61m Martin Zubimendi, £10m Christian Norgaard and £5m Kepa Arrizabalaga. Without Eze the summer outlay is set to stand at £196m. There has been little in terms of exits, either,…
Arsenal are not prepared to sell Jakub Kiwior this summer despite agreeing terms to bring in a new centre-back, sources have told Football Insider. The Gunners have agreed personal terms with Cristhian Mosquera ahead of his potential move from Valencia. However, sources say that the addition of Mosquera will not spell the end of Kiwior’s time at the Emirates, as the North London side continue to build a squad with sufficient depth. Mikel Arteta wants to have four centre-backs at his disposal ahead of the upcoming campaign, in order to give him the resources to cope with potential injuries. Rather…
Arsenal have already sealed three transfers this summer and are poised to swiftly add more in the coming days. The Gunners kicked off with a £5million deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga, followed by a marquee signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Christian Norgaard then joined the ranks from Brentford as Mikel Arteta’s squad begins to take form ahead of the new season. But the job isn’t done yet. Arsenal have struck another agreement with Chelsea and are now gearing up to announce the signing of Noni Madueke. And it seems the Premier League runners-up are finally on the cusp of…
Former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka could be set for an unexpected reunion this summer as he nears a move away from Bayer Leverkusen. The Swiss international spent several years at the Emirates Stadium between 2016 and 2022. He initially joined the Gunners from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach and went on to make just under 300 appearances for the club across all competitions. Three years ago, he completed a permanent return to the Bundesliga, joining Leverkusen for a reported fee of around £21m. In his second season at the BayArena, Xhaka played a pivotal role in their Bundesliga title-winning campaign, during…
Arsenal have started to pick up their transfer business in recent weeks with three new arrivals confirmed by the club with more signings on the way at the Emirates Stadium. Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined for just £5m from Chelsea as a solid back-up option to David Raya while Mikel Arteta has strengthened his midfield with the additions of Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard for a combined £66m. More arrivals are poised to be on the way as the Gunners continue to work on a headline summer deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres with talks reaching a very advanced stage…
