Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season at the weekend against Spurs and were hard done by a number of cruel decisions. However, the Reds showed spirit with 9 men and must be proud of the extreme effort they put in for the club and the future of this mentally strong squad is surely bright. Speaking of future, a key player is close to extending his stay at Anfield. According to an exclusive story covered by Football Insider, Liverpool are close to agreeing fresh terms with vice-captain, Trent Alexander-Arnold. The news source have mentioned that the England international has…
Manchester United’s upcoming UEFA Champions League opponents Galatasaray were in action on Saturday, with their Turkish Super Lig fixture against Ankaragucu kicking off moments after full-time in our meeting with Crystal Palace. Okan Buruk’s men were unbeaten in their opening six top-flight fixtures, recording five straight wins following a goalless draw in their first game, at Kayserispor. But it looked like that record might be in trouble, when Renaldo Cephas struck just after the break for the 12th-placed visitors at Rams Park. Wilfried Zaha, who will, of course, be looking forward to a return to M16, had other ideas though.…
Liverpool FC Women kick off their 2023-24 season by facing Arsenal Women at Emirates Stadium today at 2pm BST. They then host Aston Villa Women on Sunday October 8 before beginning their Continental League Cup journey away to Leicester City Women three days later. Anfield will host the Merseyside derby between LFC Women and Everton Women on October 15, with kick-off set for 4.30pm BST. The Reds’ involvement in the month ends with an away clash at West Ham United Women on Sunday October 22. At men’s level, Belgian side Union SG head to Merseyside for matchday two in the…
Liverpool Football Club acknowledges PGMOL’s admission of their failures last night. It is clear that the correct application of the laws of the game did not occur, resulting in sporting integrity being undermined. We fully accept the pressures that match officials work under but these pressures are supposed to be alleviated, not exacerbated, by the existence and implementation of VAR. It is therefore unsatisfactory that sufficient time was not afforded to allow the correct decision to be made and that there was no subsequent intervention. That such failings have already been categorised as “significant human error” is also unacceptable. Any…
What On Earth Is Going On At Ajax? Lauded as ‘special’ by Liverpool’s official website, losing out on Gakpo through injury will be a massive blow for Jurgen Klopp’s plans this month. The Reds face the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton in the Premier League, with a key UEFA Europa League fixture against Toulouse also on the horizon. And having Gakpo unavailable is a hammer blow for Liverpool, who also won’t have Diogo Jota to call upon in their next league match after the forward was sent off against Tottenham. As Simon Hooper’s whistle rang around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at full-time on Saturday, the reaction of both sets of players was somewhat telling. Jurgen Klopp, one arm aloft and another slapping his chest defiantly, made his way over to the Liverpool supporters housed in the away end. The Reds boss was quickly followed by Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas, Alexis Mac Allister and Darwin Nunez, whose reaction was perhaps the most indicative of an unusual evening in the capital. The Uruguayan, who was an unused substitute in North London, vigorously thumped the Liverbird crest as he cajoled the Reds supporters who had, mainly, stayed in position…
Chelsea FC Women forward, Lauren James, has revealed that she doesn’t mind a dinner date with Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy. The 22-year-old disclosed this while revealing the list of three people she would invite for dinner in a recent interview with Sky News. Interviewer: “Three people you would invite over for dinner?” James: “You [interviewer], Kevin Hart; he’s very funny. The third person would be probably a singer. I would probably say Burna Boy.” DAILY POST recalls that Lauren James sparked controversy in Nigeria after stamping on Super Falcons defender, Michelle Alozie, during the FIFA Women’s…
The fallout of Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham has been unprecedented, with refereeing group PGMOL admitting a “significant human error” from VAR. It came with Luis Diaz‘s goal incorrectly ruled out for offside with the scores at 0-0 in north London, with there claimed to have been a mixup in the VAR booth. VAR for the game was Darren England, supported by assistant VAR Dan Cook, who it is claimed both believed they were checking to confirm that Diaz was, in fact, onside. That explanation is outrageous and hardly believable, but it is what has come to be expected from PGMOL…
Liverpool’s players were crushed as the ball hit the net in the very final seconds of an epic encounter. Some flat on their back. Some down on their haunches. Matip with a look of despair as Alisson tried to find some words of comfort for the defender who had inadvertently diverted Pedro Porro’s last-gasp drilled cross into his own net. The contrast with the celebrations around them couldn’t have been more stark. Porro tore away into the corner to celebrate with the delirious home fans. Another incredible win for Spurs to savour. The best one since the last home game…
Liverpool had a goal incorrectly ruled out and then, after being reduced to nine players, saw Joel Matip concede a 96th-minute own goal as Tottenham triumphed 2-1 in a Premier League thriller to go second in the table above their rivals Arsenal. But it all could have been different and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had already slammed “the most unfair circumstances, crazy decisions,” before referee body PGMOL officially apologised for Luis Diaz’s first-half strike being disallowed for offside. It was later revealed VAR mistakenly believed that the on-field decision had been to award the goal. This resulted in VAR Darren…
