Still reeling from last night’s 7-0 defeat to Roma, Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi and sporting director Pietro Accardi met for several hours today to discuss the team’s difficult situation. The Tuscans have lost all four of their opening league fixtures and were dismantled by Jose Mourinho’s yesterday evening at the Stadio Olimpico. They now sit bottom of the Serie A table and still haven’t scored a goal yet conceded 12 so far this season. With relegation a concrete threat, Tuttomercatoweb reports Empoli are expected to sack manager Paolo Zanetti in the coming hours. The club’s senior management is already discussing potential replacements with…
Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly set to finalise a new contract with Liverpool, with an announcement expected in the coming months. According to 90min, the England international us close to agreeing new terms with the Anfield side with Alexander-Arnold due to sign a fresh contract with Liverpool before the end of the year. Alexander-Arnold was named Liverpool’s vice-captain this summer with the defender expected to play a massive role for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season in the Premier League. And with two years remaining on his current deal, the Reds have now made the decision to move forward with Alexander-Arnold and…
Real Madrid and Liverpool have been involved in some memorable contests in recent years, including a couple of UEFA Champions League finals. Los Blancos came out on top on both of those occasions. And now, it looks like both clubs are after the signature of the same manager as well. Carlo Ancelotti has done a very good job since returning to Real Madrid for a second stint. In fact, he does not get enough credit for what he has achieved over his time at Santiago Bernabeu, especially when you consider the hand he has dealt, with very little depth and…
Liverpool’s leaderboard of lifts may require an update after Alexis Mac Allister chimed in on whom at the club tops the billing for brawn. It’s common for defenders to be the strongest in any given squad given the importance traditionally placed on physicality when playing at the back. And given Virgil van Dijk’s renown as one of the world’s best in his position, one would be forgiven for assuming he’s the natural Anfield Adonis. Summer signing Mac Allister has only been at the Merseyside club for a matter of months, but it’s his view Van Dijk doesn’t even make the…
Mohamed Salah was in impressive form on Saturday as Liverpool defeated Wolves 3-1 and the Egyptian’s second assist for the game-winner impressed BBC pundit Alan Shearer. The Reds were awful in the first half at Molineux but a Salah-inspired second 45 minutes helped Klopp’s team to all three points. The winger provided an assist for Liverpool’s first goal which Cody Gakpo scored in the 55th minute. The second assist was for the winning goal that Andy Robertson netted on 85 minutes. Salah played a lovely ball into the left-back and the pass impressed Alan Shearer. The former Newcastle star said…
Liverpool sold Minamino to Monaco for £15.5 million last summer. It represented profit on the Reds’ side but was still seen as a good deal for the buying club, should they get the best out of the Japanese. Under Niko Kovac, and latterly Philippe Clement, Minamino struggled, often playing on the flanks. In his 25 appearances last season, he started 15, scoring just once and providing four assists across the campaign. This season, he has three assists and has already tripled his goal tally with just five matches played. Now, with Monaco unbeaten and top of Ligue 1, Minamino is…
It is safe to say that the role of full-backs has evolved exponentially over the years in the world of full-ball. From being defensive modalities down the flanks to becoming one of the most dynamic weapons in the final third, the position has seen a large shift in recent decades. At Real Madrid, the importance of dynamic full-backs is further emphasised. Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vasquez have covered the right-back role well on that front. Now past 30, both players are rightly considered to be entering their final years at the club and Real Madrid are looking for their next…
Michail Antonio has claimed that Mohamed Salah is now ready to leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia having had an offer rejected in the summer. Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, the West Ham striker made the assumption that Salah was ready to make the move to the Middle East and to quit Anfield. Salah was subject to a Premier League-record offer from Al-Ittihad worth a reported £125m, with Liverpool rejecting the bid due to how late in came in. With a second move expected in January, there’s every chance that Salah leaves Liverpool in 2024 for a life-changing move to…
The Egyptian provided two assists in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Wolves on Saturday, the first of which a beautiful cross for Cody Gakpo which was Salah’s 200th Premier League goal contribution for the Reds. Only eight players in the Premier League’s 30-year history have reached this number for a single club. It’s an exclusive list that includes the likes of Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Salah wasn’t the quickest player to reach this milestone, however, which we all know will slightly annoy the 31-year-old. Arsenal’s Thierry Henry only need 206 matches to be directly involved in 200 top-flight…
Liverpool rejected a club-record offer in the latter stages of the summer window from Al-Ittihad, though the expectation now is that there will be more bids for Salah in the January window. Recently lauded by Garth Crooks as ‘world-class’, a fear could soon set on Anfield that Salah will actually leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia in 2024. And the attacker soon becoming the centre of a massive transfer battle between Middle Eastern clubs could be a major issue for the Reds, who will not want to lose Salah. Indeed, Al-Ittihad’s bid in the summer could just be a taste of…
