We can finally put a line through Mohamed Salah talk, for this transfer window at least, and it is positive news on the Anfield expansion front as we round up Thursday’s Liverpool news. The club’s famed former sporting director, Michael Edwards, has seen plenty of speculation over his next move since he left Liverpool in 2022. And his next step has now been revealed by The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, with Edwards joining the club’s ex-director of research, Ian Graham in his new venture, Ludonautics. Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric talked to Sportske Novosti and discussed his new role in the Spanish capital. “Nobody is happy without playing and after my whole career it definitely feels strange. Anyway, the coach made that decision and I won’t quit because of that. Quite the opposite, actually,” said Modric. The Croatian midfielder expanded his thoughts on the matter when asked about why he made the decision to sign a contract extension. “They wanted me to stay and my wish was the same. My only requirement was to be treated as a competitive player so that I didn’t stay…

Chelsea continued their big spending ways this summer as the club looked to rebuild under new manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues have now spent more than £1billion since a consortium led by Todd Boehly bought the club from Roman Abramovich last year. They have broken the British transfer record twice in just over six months, first spending around £105m to sign Enzo Fernandez in February and then forking out £115m for Moises Caicedo in August. Unsurprisingly, Chelsea were also rather active on deadline day, spending £42.5m on Cole Palmer as well as selling Callum Hudson-Odoi to Nottingham Forest and shipping young prospects Mason Burstow, Diego Moreira…

Completing a trio of Liverpool August nominees, Alisson is up for the Premier League’s Save of the Month award. Any guesses which one? If you said his diving stop to tip Miguel Almiron’s thunderous volley onto the crossbar during Liverpool’s unlikely 2-1 triumph over Newcastle, then you’d be correct. The No.1 had a number of saves that could have seen him nominated, though this is the only one. He is one of six chosen this month, including Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario.
