Jürgen Klopp is well-stocked for creative and technical midfielders right now, having invested in the services of both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer. The two players possess elite potential and real quality on the field, but they are both accustomed to playing further forward. With Liverpool allowing Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to move to Saudi Arabia earlier this month, Klopp has an obvious void in the deeper areas of his midfield. In fact, he was forced to start Mac Allister as his holding midfielder against Chelsea over the weekend, which captures his overwhelming need in the transfer market. Klopp is in…
The redevelopment, which will take Anfield’s overall capacity to 61,000, was due to be complete in time for Saturday’s home opener against Bournemouth, but delays from construction company The Buckingham Group mean Anfield will be working at a reduced capacity. Instead, the redeveloped Anfield Road Stand will undergo a phased opening, with the aim now for completion in mid-October, meaning a first full capacity for the Merseyside derby on October 21. The test event saw supporters attend in order for the club to use the facilities, which is required for health and safety certification from the City Council. Only the…
By the time the 2025/26 season gets underway the revamped financial regulations from UEFA to replace Financial Fair Play will be in full effect. Revealed last year, European football’s governing body reacted to calls to overhaul the FFP system, no longer deemed fit for purpose after its launch in 2010. The new regulations will focus on limiting spending by clubs on transfer fees, player wages and agents fees to 70% of revenue through what is known as a squad cost rule. That 70% figure, however, won’t be in effect for another two years, with this season and the 2024/25 season…
Liverpool face a race against time to land much-needed reinforcements in midfield with Fulham’s Joao Palhinha and Crystal Palace youngster Cheick Doucoure among the favoured options. The Reds have been left reeling following Chelsea’s double swoop of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, despite the Anfield club first agreeing a British transfer record fee for the former after they had spent much of the summer courting the latter. Now scrambling to secure the vital signing of a defensive midfielder before the transfer window slams shut on September 1, soccerhuz.com understands as many as six targets are being considered. Fulham’s combative midfielder Palhinha, who led the league for…
That is according to Foot Mercato. The French outlet claims that Al-Nassr are very keen on signing Alisson, who is tempted to join the Saudi Pro League outfit. Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino all left Anfield during this transfer window to take up a new challenge in the Saudi Pro League. Liverpool cannot sell Alisson Liverpool selling Alisson would be madness, especially this late in the window. He is arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and one of the top shot-stoppers in the world. His manager Jurgen Klopp once said that when the 30-year-old wakes up in the…
Having just sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea in a £115M deal that still has Liverpool fans gnashing their teeth, Brighton have set their sites on Lille 19-year-old Carlos Baleba as the man to replace their departed defensive midfielder. For some Liverpool fans, this begs a seemingly simple question: if Liverpool can’t have Caicedo, why don’t they simply go and sign Baleba, aka Brighton’s rumoured intended replacement for him, instead. Now, it seems the rumour mongers agree. At least according to The Mail and a smattering of even less well regarded outlets today, that’s just what Liverpool are at the very…
According to Ben Jacobs in the latest edition of his weekly exclusive CaughtOffside column, one option could be Ryan Gravenberch, who remains open to the prospect of moving to Anfield. The issue remains, however, whether or not Bayern Munich will sell the Netherlands international, so there are some other names on Liverpool’s list as well. Jacobs mentioned the links with Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, though he made it clear he doesn’t see much substance to them, while Fluminense youngster Andre could be another option, even if his current club would ideally keep him for a bit longer. “Chelsea have signed Moises…
Liverpool’s pursuit of Moisés Caicedo and his subsequent decision to join Chelsea has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about the club’s recruitment strategy. Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton expressed his confusion over Caicedo’s choice, considering Liverpool’s recent success and its need for a midfielder like him. The transfer saga highlighted the intense competition between Liverpool and Chelsea in the market — with a battle also on for Roméo Lavia’s signature, where the Blues again occupy the driving seat. Sutton questioned Caicedo’s decision-making, labelling him as a “development player” and suggesting that working under Jürgen Klopp at Anfield should have been a more attractive prospect.…
Arsenal are looking like completing their record sale – giving them the opportunity for one last flourish in the transfer market. With David Raya imminent, the Gunners have spent around £200 million this summer strengthening their side and got off to winning ways against Nottingham Forest with all three confirmed signings starting. This was without the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Kieran Tierney and Albert Sambi Lokonga, too, despite manager Mikel Arteta saying that he had a full squad to choose from. Another player missing from Matchday 1 could now be moved on for around £40-50 million, too – giving Arteta the chance…
Following his presentation as a new Real Madrid player, Kepa spoke to the media in the press room at Real Madrid City. The goalkeeper said: “It’s a very happy and special day for me, for all of my family, friends and loved ones. I’m happy and proud to be part of Real Madrid. It’s a day I want to enjoy and share with those closest to me”. “It’s a proud moment to be a part of Real Madrid with all its legacy and all its history. I’ve always followed LaLiga and I’ve grown up watching Casillas playing in goal for Madrid. He was one of my role models and when I watched…
