Manchester United might have found their new Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Joshua Zirkzee with the latter setting his sights on becoming like the Sweden legend. The summer signing has admitted life at Old Trafford has been difficult since completing the move from Bologna. He did, however, score a debut winner in United’s Premier League opener against Fulham after coming off the bench. He was, though, unable to capitalise on the opportunities he had in the recent 3-0 defeat to Liverpool before the international break. He described missing United’s two best chances as ‘shameful.’ Zirkzee later made his full international debut for Holland, where he…
AC Milan and Inter’s joint project to build a new stadium in the San Siro area re-emerged on Friday, following a meeting with the mayor Beppe Sala. However, as a report highlights, this is not really a suitable solution either. The stadium pursuit has taken many turns in recent years and Friday’s update was just another example of this. However, Milan president Paolo Scaroni immediately came out and said that the number one priority remains San Donato and not San Siro. Todya’s edition of Corriere della Sera, as cited by MilanNews, echoes the words of Scaroni and highlights the…
Alexis Saelemaekers was forced to leave Roma’s 1-1 draw against Genoa earlier than planned after picking up an ankle injury in the second half. Now, the Giallorossi are hoping that it isn’t anything serious for the AC Milan loanee. Saelemaekers joined Roma as part of the Tammy Abraham on deadline day, with the striker going to Milan. So far, it has been a successful trade for the Rossoneri as the English striker was brilliant last night, bagging his first for the club as well. In any case, Saelemaekers made his second start for Roma earlier today against Genoa, but…
AC Milan made five signings this summer, excluding Alex Jimenez who was redeemed, and four of these have already found the back of the net. Although the Rossoneri’s main issues were in defence, this is still a good sign. Milan ended up spending just shy of €80m this summer – read our full financial breakdown on Substack – and welcomed five new players as a result. Tammy Abraham was the last to arrive as Milan reached an agreement with Roma on deadline day. As highlighted by Antonio Vitiello, four of these five signings have already found the back of…
Matteo Gabbia got to play his first minutes this season as Paulo Fonseca gave him the chance from start against Venezia. The centre-back responded very well and although he didn’t get a goal in the end, he was very happy after the game. Given the defensive struggles at the start of this season, and Gabbia’s performances last season, many fans were urging Fonseca to start the academy product and so he did. It almost resulted in a goal as well, though it was officially given to Youssouf Fofana instead. After the 4-0 win against Venezia, Gabbia spoke to DAZN,…
Fabio Capello was happy with what he saw from AC Milan against Venezia last night, with the Rossoneri finding the back four times within the first 29 minutes. However, as he highlighted, there are still a few things to improve. The win was absolutely crucial for Milan after a tough start to the season, claiming two points in three games, and the confidence boost will do them good. Liverpool and Inter are up next and these are two tests that will be much more difficult than Venezia. In his editorial for Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, the legendary manager…
Had Liverpool made more changes to its starting XI against Nottingham Forest, would that have changed the scoreline in the Premier League clash? It’s impossible to know for certain but Arne Slot has tended to prefer consistency so far during his tenure. It would be fair to say, though, that Liverpool looked sluggish and struggled to find any kind of rhythm or momentum at Anfield. It was one of those games where it feels like a team could play another 90 minutes and still not score. Given that the next match is now only two days away, with Liverpool facing…
AC Milan will take on Liverpool on Tuesday evening in their Champions League opener, hoping to hear the San Siro roar again. As confirmed by UEFA earlier today, the Norwegian Espen Eskås will officiate the big clash. Milan and Liverpool’s battles in the Champions League go way back and carry a lot of pedigree, making Tuesday’s clash a special one. The two faced each other in the 2021-22 UCL group stage and the Reds prevailed in both games, with the Rossoneri looking for revenge now. As confirmed by UEFA on their official website, the Norwegian referee Espen Eskås will officiate…
Arrigo Sacchi has joined the crowd of those who believe that Paulo Fonseca should make some tactical changes to his AC Milan side. The pressure will be on Milan to perform at San Siro against Venezia tonight given that they are winless in their first three games, with a 2-2 draw against Torino followed by back-to-back away games against Parma and Lazio which yielded a 2-1 defeat and another 2-2 tie respectively. Various pundits and former players have been putting forward their opinions about what Fonseca has got wrong so far, including Maurizio Sarri and Zvonimir Boban who both urged…
RC Lens defender Kevin Danso, who failed a medical test with Roma earlier this summer, is still unable to play for his current employers due to ongoing examinations to monitor a possible heart condition. The Austria international flew to Rome to undergo a medical with the Giallorossi back in August. Roma had been hoping to complete a deal in the region of €25m with Lens. The medical did not go to plan, however, and Danso ended up having to fly back to France. He later released a statement hinting that Roma had a ‘deeper reason’ for calling the transfer off, questioning their ‘interpretation’ of…
