AC Milan’s next game isn’t for another eight days, but Sky journalist Manuele Baiocchini seems confident regarding what Paulo Fonseca will do with the attack in the three matches to come. Alvaro Morata was the first of two strikers to sign this summer, from Atletico Madrid for €13m, and he made an instant impact against Torino in the first game of the season as he scored off the bench, but he worsened a muscle issue in that game and has been out since. On deadline day Tammy Abraham came from Roma on loan and instantly slotted in as the deputy to the…

Paolo Maldini is hoping to secure a return to AC Milan through a new buyer of the club, a journalist has claimed, and it is in Saudi Arabia that there is particular interest. Periodically rumours seem to sprout up regarding the idea of Maldini’s return to Milan after the departed the club at the end of the 2022-23 season, with the suggestion almost always involving a takeover bid from somewhere in the Middle East. They pretty much never come to anything as the usual denials filter out, but that doesn’t detract from the idea that eventually RedBird Capital might look…

Barcelona are reportedly looking to get a reduced price for Rafael Leao, who previously had a £147.5million release clause, by allowing Ferran Torres to leave in the deal. Barca have largely struggled to finance big deals in the past couple of years. Last season, of the four permanent additions, only Vitor Roque had any significant money spent on him. The forward has since been loaned out, and Barca’s eagerness to get him out of the club so soon suggests they feel the outlay was a mistake, in a time where they can only spend big money every so often. This…

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport has taken a rather nostalgic look at AC Milan’s current moment, asking the question: what has happened to the team that won the Scudetto? The paper (via MilanNews) begins by remaking that the only survivors of the Milan side won the league title in 2021-22 are Mike Maignan and Fikayo Tomori, but they say that because Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao are causing controversy after what happened in the Lazio game. Ismael Bennacer is no longer at the centre of the project, while Davide Calabria – captain of the current team, and vice-captain of the one that…

Inter Milan and AC Milan have once again managed to comply with UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations, thus avoiding undesired consequences. The two clubs had trouble remaining within the set parameters in the years that followed the Covid-19 pandemic. They, alongside a host of other European clubs, signed settlements with UEFA to ward off immediate sanctions. This agreement forces the clubs to operate within certain financial margins while remaining under scrutiny. On Friday, UEFA confirmed that Inter and their crosstown rivals have succeeded in their task, managing to comply with FFP regulations as well as the settlements signed with the…

UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body has today announced that AC Milan met their Financial Fair Play targets along with Inter, but AS Roma were guilty of a minor breach. For the first time, the CFCB assessed clubs against the new squad cost rule that is progressively implemented over three years, which means that the cost of the squad for that season (amortisation of transfer fees plus gross salaries) can only be a percentage of total revenues. In 2023, clubs had to report a ratio equal or below 90%. The ratio will then decrease to 80% in 2024 and finally to…

AC Milan striker Alvaro Morata can’t wait to take part in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter Milan after attending previous editions incognito. The 31-year-old signed for the Rossoneri this summer, completing a transfer from Atletico Madrid. He marked his debut for Milan with a goal after coming off the bench against Torino, helping his side clinch a point in the 2-2 draw. The Spaniard then sustained an injury that ruled him out of action for a few weeks. However, he should be available for selection ahead of the upcoming Derby clash on September 22nd. Morata had two previous spells…

Another large obstacle has been thrown in the path of Milan’s plan to build a new stadium in San Donato, as local authorities appeal to make it a protected UNESCO zone. The Rossoneri have drawn up a project to build their own venue outside the city limits, in the San Donato area, while Inter have similar plans in Rozzano. However, it has been beset by the same problems that stalled so many Italian clubs in their attempts to build new infrastructure, namely red tape and the refusal of many local authorities to have such a large event space in their back yard. It was…

Inter Milan new signing Tomas Palacios has finally had his first training session at the club after resolving all bureaucratic matters. The Nerazzurri managed to secure the player’s signature at the end of the summer transfer session. It was an exhausting operation, as it involved two other other clubs. The young defender made his big breakthrough while playing on loan at Independiente Rivadavia who also had the option to buy the player’s contract from Talleres. In the end, they managed to agree on a transfer fee worth 6.5 million euros that could rise to 11m depending on bonuses. However, the…

AC Milan are nowhere close to Europe’s elite when it comes to the cost of assembling the squad currently at Paulo Fonseca’s disposal, a study has shown.
