After Anthony Cirelli’s career-high 20th goal gave Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead against the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, Stamkos put the club’s 24th home win in the books with a pair of goals. The final one, which gave him a hat trick, was an empty-netter. Every goal you score in this league is pretty special,” said Stamkos, who recorded his 13th career hat trick and has totaled 39 goals, including 19 on the power play. “When you get three in a game, you remember that, for sure.”
The team has announced that they have signed Neemias Queta for the rest of the season, making him eligible for postseason play. MassLive’s Brian Robb is also reporting that it is a multi-year deal. After Queta was released by Sacramento after an MVP season with their Stockton affiliate, President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens scooped him up to a two-way contact early last fall. He played meaningful minutes early in the regular season that included a strong stretch on a December west coast trip while the team’s front court weathered injuries. In twenty-six games, the Portuguese native has averaged 4.6…
The Toronto Maple Leafs traveled to Montreal on Saturday night to take on the Canadiens. What were the Good, Bad, and Ugly aspects of the game? The Bad With Mitch Marner returning, Head Coach Sheldon Keefe put Marner, Auston Matthews, and William Nylander on three separate lines to create more balance. The lines didn’t have much continuity to start the game. All four lines struggled to put multiple passes together and spent a lot of time hemmed in their end of the ice. The Canadiens carried the play, outshot the Maple Leafs 9-4, and had 60% of the Expected Goals…
The Manly Sea Eagles have delivered a stunning performance against the defending premiers, the Penrith Panthers, marking Daly Cherry-Evans’ record-breaking 310th NRL game. Cherry-Evans etched his name in the history books for the Sea Eagles by surpassing club legend Cliff Lyons to become the most capped player for Manly. However, the 32-18 victory for Manly was not without its share of controversy. The pivotal moment came in the 34th minute when Tolutau Koula capitalised on a Panthers error, intercepting a misguided pass and dashing 90 meters to score a contentious try.
Daly Cherry-Evans got involved in the try-scoring action on the night in which he became the Sea Eagles’ most capped player, as Manly downed the Panthers 32-18 at 4 Pines Park. The 310-gamer scored the first of the Sea Eagles’ three second-half tries as they powered past Penrith with a spirited effort in the second 40 minutes that ended a two-game winless run for the club. Cherry-Evans also had a try assist and booted a perfect six from six off the tee, after taking over kicking duties following the loss of Reuben Garrick to a head knock on three minutes.…
This is despite police and paramedics being called to Northumberland Park on the outskirts of the stadium at 6am this morning. A man was found dead with a number of stab injuries, the Metropolitan Police said. CPR was administered but despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe they know who he is and are working to inform his next of kin. There have been no arrests at this stage. Supporters have been advised to allow for extra travel time, with the whole of Northumberland Park Road and the north end of Worcester Avenue closed.
The defense of the Toronto Maple Leafs has been the team’s biggest question mark since the current NHL season began. Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving didn’t risk giving up prospects or draft capital for a top 4 defenseman at the NHL trade deadline. Instead, he acquired Ilya Lyubushkin and Joel Edmundson. Players that add a physical element, but are not top defenders on a championship-caliber team.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have seven games remaining in the 2023-24 regular season and already clinched a playoff spot prior to their game last night against the Montreal Canadiens. Their final two games of the season, on April 16th (Florida Panthers) and April 17th (Tampa Bay Lightning), could have implications on the playoff standings. The Toronto Maple Leafs are sitting in third place within the Atlantic Division with 95 points as of Saturday morning.
The 49ers’ no. 1 priority during free agency was their defensive line. Have they finished tinkering with it, or will they continue to prioritize it during the upcoming draft? Both Daniel Jeremiah and Lance Zierlein of NFL.com expect the 49ers to draft a defensive lineman in Round 1 despite all they did during free agency. Let’s recap: They released Arik Armstead, let go of Javon Kinlaw, Chase Young, Randy Gregory and Clelin Ferrell, signed Leonard Floyd, Yetur Gross-Matos and Jordan Elliott, and traded for Maliek Collins. Talk about an overhaul. The only defensive linemen returning from last season are Nick…
The 49ers almost certainly will draft another tight end this year. They drafted two last year — Cameron Latu and Brayden Willis. Willis was a decent special teams player, but Latu was flat-out awful at everything in training camp, which is why he spent the season on I.R. and the 49ers recently tried to sign Lions backup tight end Brock Wright. Ultimately, the 49ers were unsuccessful in acquiring Wright, which means they have to draft one for the second year in a row.
