It’s been nearly two months since the Philadelphia 76ers had Joel Embiid in the lineup. When the star center exited the team’s January 30 matchup against the Golden State Warriors prematurely, he was scheduled to undergo an MRI. After an MCL injury was revealed, Embiid decided to have a surgical procedure done to correct the issue. The Sixers guaranteed Embiid’s absence would last four weeks at minimum. At that point, he would be re-evaluated, and the team would determine the next steps.

Sign a veteran big to provide depth behind Paul Reed and Mo Bamba? Bring up another player from the Blue Coats on a 10-day deal like Darius Bazley? Convert Ricky Council IV’s two-way contract to a standard deal? Last Friday the Sixers signed 2021 first-round pick Kai Jones to a 10-day contract. The 23-year-old big was waived by the…

It may be a bit early to start thinking about next year when the Toronto Maple Leafs still have another month of regular season games and a (hopefully) long playoff run ahead of them this season. But Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has surely spent at least a little bit of time considering what his options may be next season when both Mitch Marner and John Tavares will enter the final season of their contracts. Let’s start with what will likely be the simpler situation, that of team captain John Tavares.  Tavares will be 34 when his $11M…

I’ve always wondered what the players feel about something that is largely ceremonial. On paper, it doesn’t really matter who starts the first game so long as whoever does makes all of his starts during the season. You, of course, will be facing the opposition’s best pitcher as well, so putting out your best pitcher to face him is the norm. But in those first few games, teams tend to be little more conservative with how much their starters throw being as how they’re still coming off of spring training. Bullpens play a pretty big part in the decision that…

The series has agreed a US media rights dealwith Warner Bros Discovery (WBD)-owned TNT Sports, while it has also shown an awareness for delivering to receptive audiences by agreeing a free-to-air (FTA) broadcast deal with DF1 in Germany. All the while, rumours of a sale rumble…

Non-roster infielder Kevin Smith, vying for a bench job as a backup shortstop, went 3-for-3 with a three-run triple, though he also committed a fielding error in the first inning of the Yankees’ 12-6 loss to the Red Sox in Fort Myers, Fla. By the time that first inning mercifully ended, the Red Sox led the Yankees 9-0. The final damage included two Yankees errors and three Red Sox home runs.

Massa’s complaints centre on that year’s Singapore Grand Prix, where Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr crashed deliberately to help team-mate Fernando Alonso win the race. Ferrari driver Massa had led comfortably from pole position until the moment of Piquet’s crash, but ultimately finished 13th after a chaotic pit stop during the ensuing Safety Car period. Those lost points would prove pivotal at the title decider at Interlagos five weeks later as he missed out by a single point to Hamilton. PlanetF1.com recommends Explained: Why is Felipe Massa legally challenging Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 World title? Lewis Hamilton now finally has a…

Instead, Toto Wolff’s outfit are locked into a battle with McLaren for the title of the third-fastest car with just two points separating the two teams in the standings. A strong performance from George Russell in Bahrain contributed most of those points too, with Hamilton sitting down in P9 in the Drivers’ Championship. After a difficult outing in Jeddah, Hamilton made his thoughts on the W15 known. “It’s definitely tough, but we’ll get our heads down and we’ll keep working away,” he told Sky Sports F1. “I know everyone at the factory is pushing as hard as they can, but…
