Breaking news: New San Siro Project Far from Being Really Underway

Inter and Milan have submitted their proposal to buy the San Siro area and build a new stadium, which is technically called DOCFAP. However, as it often happens due to the Italian red tape, the process requires a few more formal steps that will take time, Calcio e Finanza informs.

Mayor Giuseppe Sala will issue a public bidding for the zone, which should happen by the end of March. Assuming the only offer comes from the two sides, things would then move on to the preliminary phase. It would have to consider all the ancillary aspects of the arena. For instance, traffic circulation, the environmental impact, and noise pollution.

Therefore, Milan and Inter are still far away from an executive project with the proper technical and economic support. Since it’d be brand new after the last one fell through, there would have to be another comprehensive consultation with the local stakeholders.

The previous blueprint was hindered by an architectural restriction on part of the stadium, which can’t be torn down. It’s currently set to become some sort of shop. The superintendence will need to weigh in again. Things should go smoother once the area becomes private.

Milan and Inter aim to complete the acquisition of San Siro by July 2025 if there are no hiccups. The ensuing stages could take more than a year. Without fatal complications, it could be possible to break ground in 2027 and conclude the construction by 2030.
