Milan are a club that have always put youth development at the forefront of their aims, as shown by the Milan Futuro project launched last summer. Having a second team allows for an easier pathway to senior football, as the likes of Francesco Camarda and Alex Jimenez show.
Speaking to the press at the Social Football Summit Snack – an event held at the Arena Civica Gianni Brera – Gravina praised Milan for the Italy youth internationals they have produced and the path they have taken.
“I want to congratulate Milan. It is the club that provides the most players to the youth national teams, 31, compared to Atalanta’s 28. It may be a strange coincidence, but it has been happening since the second teams have existed,” he said (via MilanNews).
“Milan have started a journey, even at the expense of competitiveness because it is risking the playouts in Serie C, making a visionary choice, with a great sense of responsibility, investing in young talents.
“And it is the tangible and clear demonstration that sportingly there is a risk in reducing the age of the Primavera and by a domino effect on the other youth teams, but the youth policy pays off.
The Arena Civica is also the venue for the Coppa Italia Primavera final at 15:00 CEST today between Milan and Cagliari, something which in itself shows that the Rossoneri’s talents are competitive at the top level
