After missing out on Florian Wirtz, Bayern Munich has shifted its focus to addressing its lack of top quality on the left wing. One of the names Bayern has been rumoured to be after is AC Milan’s Rafael Leão, however, recent reports suggest that a move for the Portuguese winger will be more difficult than Bayern would hope.
While Leão is supposedly open to joining Bayern, his current club, AC Milan, is strongly opposed to letting its star player go. Milan is said to be unwilling to sell, however, it is believed that if this were to somehow change, the Italian side would require an astronomical fee over the €100m mark.
At this point, it seems as though the only chance Bayern has at acquiring the player would be to offer an inflated sum of money that is far higher than Leão’s estimated market value of €75m (Transfermarkt). Leão is undoubtedly a talented player, but the fee Milan wants is just too high.
Bayern was willing to break the bank for Florian Wirtz, a player whose quality warrants an absurd transfer fee. Rafael Leão is not Wirtz. Should Bayern spend Wirtz money on Leão? No. Will it? Probably not. Unless something unexpected happens, a move for Leão should be off for the time being.
