Arsenal are said to be eyeing a youngster who has been catching the eye in South America.
Arsenal are being inked with a move for a talented young striker as they look to get ahead of huge transfer fees. The Gunners have spent big to craft the ideal squad for Mikel Arteta, and they spent more than £200million again during the summer just gone.
The North London club have one of the best squads in the world at this stage, with excellent depth, but while they have been helped by the emergence of young stars like Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, it has certainly cost Arsenal to get to that stage.
One way to get ahead of big fees is to sign talented players at a young age, and we have seen Chelsea place plenty of focus in that area in recent times. The Blues have spent big to get some of the best youngsters, but in their model, the £30million, for example, that they might spend to sign an 18-year-old from Brazil may save them signing the same player for £90million further down the line, and the Blues do look to be reaping the rewards from that model currently.
Arsenal would be wise to follow given the restrictive nature of the current spending rules, and they are indeed said to be shopping in Brazil, where Chelsea and Real Madrid have been focusing in recent years. According to Calciomercato.it, Arsenal are interested in Vasco de Gama striker Rayan, who is just 19 years of age.
The youngster has scored 16 and assisted once in 46 games across all competitions this season, and he is the latest young talent to be tipped for a big future from that part of the world after Endrick and Estevao Willian.
According to the report, super-agent Pini Zahavi has now been officially authorised to speak to European clubs to see where Rayan’s future lies. Arsenal, AS Roma and AC Milan are said to be interested in the striker, and the Gunners may fancy themselves to win that particular race.
A move next summer looks the most likely, although the Brazilian season will be ongoing at that stage. In terms of the fee, it’s unclear what it will take, but FC Porto saw a €12m (£10.4m) plus bonuses offer turned down last summer.
