Done: Milan agree €12m deal with Xhaka…see more

AC Milan are certainly proceeding towards the signing of Granit Xhaka, but there is a gap between offer and demand to fill.

Milan must rebuild the midfield again after Tijjani Reijnders was sold to Manchester City, just like when Sandro Tonali was sold to Newcastle United. Xhaka is among the names that has been linked most consistently, with recent reports suggesting that the player has said yes to the move.

The distance over Xhaka

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), the negotiations for Xhaka could be unblocked in the next few days. After having reached a verbal agreement with the player for a three-year contract at around €4m net per season, a transfer fee must be agreed.

Milan must work to try to close the gap with Bayer Leverkusen, because they have the intention of offering €10m, while the Bundesliga champions are asking for €15m. They paid €23m in the summer of 2023 to sign him, so they need more in order not to record a capital loss on the balance sheet.

This is why the parties will have to reconcile in the coming days, also because Milan’s initial offer will certainly not be enough for them to break even. A slight raise will almost certainly be required.
