With Mike Maignan’s injury, football takes a secondary, if not a tertiary, position. However, with the Frenchman seemingly ok, AC Milan are already thinking about his return.

Despite Milan winning by four goals, there was a shadow on the game – Maignan’s injury. However, the past 36 hours have shown us largely positive signs, with the Frenchman seemingly OK, and ready to return when the time is right.

According to this morning’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), that should be on Tuesday, after his second round of tests. On Friday, he was given the initial tests to see if there was any damage, so four days of complete rest later, he will return to the hospital, and then, hopefully, Milanello.

If everything points in the direction of him being fine, then preparation will begin for the weekend; if not, though, there will be no risks taken, and the Inter game will be targeted – though reports already suggest that the Atalanta game should be fine.

It has been a difficult season for the goalkeeper, for injury and performance reasons. Many believe he has dropped a little, however, it could be the culmination of several injury issues. Against Sassuolo and Liverpool, he found himself needing to be taken off, adding to the long list of absences since joining the club.

Despite this, he still remains a player of paramount importance, even if there are questions about his future in the long term. A testament to his character and Milan’s reliance on him.
