Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has confirmed that the Nerazzurri had the opportunity to sign Joao Felix in the winter transfer window, but he clarified that the proposal came from the player’s agent and was ultimately turned down by the club.
The Portuguese forward joined Milan on loan from Chelsea in January and recently revealed that his agent, Jorge Mendes, told him that city rivals Inter were also interested in him.
However, this version of events contradicts Ausilio’s account, as he stated that the Nerazzurri were contacted by the agents of Joao Felix and Marco Asensio, who were offering deals for their clients. Inter, however, firmly responded that they were already satisfied with their attacking options and had no intention of making further additions.
“The rumours are mainly linked to the activities of agents, who naturally make phone calls when they need to move a player,” Ausilio told Sportmediaset.
“When you have an important player like Asensio or Joao Felix—this also serves as my response to those saying Inter had started negotiations for the Portuguese—it’s normal for the agent’s goal to be creating market opportunities.
“Agents, in their efforts to work and prove to their clients that they are actively seeking opportunities, may reach out to Inter, but we have always been clear with everyone. We have consistently stated that we were already set in attack.
“Had there been any departures, we would have considered what solutions the market could offer to complete the squad, always keeping in mind our clear strategy of having two players per position. Inter have been built in recent seasons to compete at the highest level.”
Joao Felix has featured in every Milan game since he moved to the San Siro, scoring his first goal on his debut during a 3-1 win over Roma in the Coppa Italia.
