AC Milan has officially announced the signing of Brazilian defender Emerson Royal on a permanent transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, with the former Barcelona man penning a deal until 2028.
The move was made official by a statement on the club website and it confirmed that he will be under contract with the Rossoneri until June 30, 2028 and there is an option for another year after that.
The 25-year-old right-back was pursued by Milan for much of the summer transfer window but the two clubs struggled to agree on the transfer fee.
The breakthrough came last week and Milan have quickly carried out the medical so that Emerson can feature against Monza and potentially against Torino on the opening day of the Serie A season.
Emerson moved from Brazil to Real Betis in Spain in January 2019 and his impressive performances led to him joining Barcelona. Having struggled to carve out a starting spot there, he signed for Tottenham in 2021. He made 101 appearances there and scored four goals.
He has made 10 appearances for the Brazilian National Team and is expected to provide Davide Calabria with stiff competition at right-back this season.
Emerson is going to wear the number 22 shirt for Milan and is the third major signing of the summer transfer window for Milan.
