Report: Arsenal and Man City’s quadruple pursuit reaches uncharted territory after FA Cup fourth-round

Arsenal had a much-needed break from Premier League action when hosting Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round.

The last time Arsenal played in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta’s side left a lot to be desired against Brentford.

By dropping points at the Gtech Community Stadium, momentum in the race for the title turned in Manchester City’s favour, as the gap at the top shrank to four points.

Arsenal are still favourites to win the league, but that’s not the only trophy that they’ll be competing against Pep Guardiola’s squad for this season.

Everyone knows that Man City can apply pressure to Arsenal, given what happened in both the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

The hope is that Arsenal get the better of their rivals this time around, not just in the Premier League, but on all four fronts.

Just like the Gunners, Man City progressed to the fifth-round of the FA Cup, and by doing so, the two clubs made history.

For the first time ever, two English clubs will still be chasing the quadruple in March.

It highlights the success and consistency that Arsenal and Man City have shown over the season so far, which only makes for a very exciting climax.

The two clubs already have a date booked at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final, with the rest to be decided closer to the end of the footballing calendar of 2025/26.

The idea of a quadruple is incredible for Arsenal, and it emphasises the growth that Arteta has achieved at the club.

That being said, there’s only one trophy the Gunners really need to get their hands on, and that’s the Premier League.

The idea of Arsenal missing out on the league title would be disastrous, having dominated throughout the season, even when City’s quality fluctuated.

Fans would take a Champions League medal, of course, but there’s no excuse for Arsenal not to win the Premier League, and there would be huge questions asked if the title was not delivered.

First, the Carabao Cup will be decided, and it has to be thought that a win over City at Wembley could fuel Arsenal with the needed inspiration to go all the way in the league as well.
