Report: Arsenal ‘Close’ to Signing ‘Best Finisher in the World’…see more

Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed.

The Gunners are said to be growing increasingly confident that a deal for the Sweden international will be completed, having stepped up their efforts to land him in recent days.

Gyokeres’ representatives were reportedly in Portugal this week for exit talks with Sporting, who are believed to be demanding around £68m for his departure.

Arsenal are also in negotiations with the player over personal terms and are understood to still have Benjamin Sesko earmarked as an alternative option.

Gyokeres, praised as ‘the best finisher in the world’, enjoyed another prolific season in Portugal, scoring 54 goals and providing 13 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

His arrival at the Emirates would finally solve Arsenal’s long-running search for a striker, with Mikel Arteta earmarking a new number nine as one of his top priorities this summer.

Arsenal have already recruited midfielder Martin Zubimendi from La Liga side Real Sociedad and are expected to announce his arrival in the coming days.

They are also finalising a deal to bring Christian Norgaard from Brentford, who will arrive as a replacement for out-of-contract Thomas Partey.

The Gunners’ summer business has picked up pace in recent days, with talks also ongoing for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera’s arrival.

The Spanish centre-back is now the subject of club-to-club discussions over his move to the Emirates and has already agreed personal terms on a long-term deal.
