Report: Arsenal could be about to do the ‘deal of the century’…see more

Arsenal are yet to make a signing in this summer transfer window.

While the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City have already been fairly active, Arsenal are yet to spring into action.

However, it may not be long before the Gunners do start to get to work.

Indeed, Martin Zubimendi is reportedly set to join Arsenal, while Kepa Arrizabalaga is close to joining the Gunners.

Speaking on Inside Gooners, Adrian Clarke has been discussing the deal to bring Kepa to Arsenal, and he says that this sounds like it could be the deal of the century at just £5m.

Clarke shared his verdict on bringing Kepa to the Emirates.

The pundit believes this deal represents incredible value, stating that this sounds like the deal of the century at just £5m.

Let’s not forget, Kepa cost £72m a few years ago, so to now land him for £5m is a fantastic fee.

“In goal. Arsenal do need a replacement for Neto, what a loan spell that was, it didn’t work, that is for sure. Kepa Arrizabalaga, he’s available for just £5m, that sounds like the deal of the century, doesn’t it?” Clarke said.

Kepa has gone from being a £72m player to a £5m player in just a few years, representing a £67m drop in value over that period.

That is one of the biggest drops in value that any player has ever had in the game, and there are a few reasons for that.

Kepa has been heavily criticised throughout his Chelsea career for mediocre performances, and now, as he’s the wrong side of 30, his sell-on value has also significantly decreased.

However, Kepa isn’t the player who has had the biggest value drop in football history.

Excluding free transfers, Neymar is the player whose value has dropped the most between two transfers, with his £198m move to PSG being followed up by a £78m move to Al-Hilal – a £120m drop in value.

Cristiano Ronaldo, remarkably, is another player whose value has dropped significantly between two transfers, dropping £75m in value between his moves to Juventus and Manchester United.

Antoine Griezmann is also a notable name on this list as he was sold for £73m less than he was purchased for by Barcelona.

Kepa will be the goalkeeper with the highest value drop in football history, but, as Clarke says, just because Kepa is going to be cheap doesn’t mean he’s going to be a poor quality signing.

As a second-choice option, Kepa is a very shrewd purchase by Arsenal.
