It appears that Arsenal are losing grip on one of their January transfer targets, as another club is preparing an offer.
Andrea Berta doesn’t do a lot of work in January, as his history at Atletico Madrid reveals.
So far, the January transfer window has been quiet for Arsenal; however, speculation hasn’t been entirely absent.
Marc Guehi has been linked, but a move is more likely in the summer, and in midfield, Arsenal have enquired about Breno Bidon of Corinthians.
In the summer, Berta showed an interest in Bidon, who is becoming a headliner in Brazil at the age of just 20.
While the idea of signing a player of his profile would be smart for Arsenal, who are lacking midfield options, it could be that the Gunners are beaten to his signature.
CNN Brasil are now reporting that Flamengo want to sign Bidon and are ready to offer Corinthians €25m (£21m) to complete a deal.
It’s important to note that Corinthians are yet to receive an official offer from any club for Bidon, whose representatives have ‘especially’ received interest from abroad.
What is a concern for Arsenal’s reported pursuit of the player is that CNN state that sources close to Flamengo believe a move is a ‘matter of time’.
Having only played two seasons at senior level, it might be in the player’s best interests to continue to develop in his homeland, but it would be a blow for Arsenal.
Arsenal’s midfield options need bolstering as during the 2025 summer transfer window, the Gunners bid farewell to their starter as well as Jorginho.
What is now somewhat ironic is that Berta could miss out on Bidon to Flamengo, who will soon begin to plan for life without Jorginho, just as Arsenal did in the summer.
Jorginho has impressed at Flamengo, but at 34 years old, and with a contract running for another two years, Bidon could be recognised as the successor to the ex-Arsenal man.
It’s yet to be seen what is next for Bidon, who is not short of interest, with Arsenal being one of many clubs tracking the 2005-born tenacious talent.
