Report: Mikel Arteta now ready to sell Arsenal star who Edu Gaspar said had an ‘exciting’ future

It’s no secret that Arsenal will be attempting to offload several players before the end of August.

Sporting director Andrea Berta has already welcomed multiple new arrivals to the club, and all of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke made their Arsenal debuts last weekend.

Gyokeres and Zubimendi started in Arsenal’s opening weekend victory, and it’s already clear that Mikel Arteta will have much greater squad depth available this season.

However, following the likes of Jakub Kiwior, Fabio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko failing to make the bench for Arsenal against United, it’s obvious that players will need to leave as well.

And whilst Leandro Trossard is nearing an Arsenal exit, he won’t be the only former Gunners favourite embarking on a new challenge.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are now keen to sell goalkeeper Karl Hein instead of loaning him out for another season.

At 23-years-old, Hein already has 39 caps for Estonia and he’s often operated as Arsenal’s number three.

But following the arrival of young Tommy Setford from Ajax last summer, Arsenal allowed Hein to go on loan to Real Valladolid in La Liga, where he did impress at times.

Real Madrid were wowed by Hein after playing against him in Spain, and the young goalkeeper clearly has talent.

However, Arsenal are ready to sell Hein this summer, and they want to recoup somewhere around £3m to £5m.

Spanish side Levante would be keen to take Hein on loan, but Arsenal are waiting to see if a permanent buyer comes forward.

And in terms of Levante taking Hein permanently, Arsenal’s price would be difficult to meet given their budget.

Speaking last year after Hein signed a new contract with Arsenal, former sporting director Edu Gaspar seemed pretty enthused about the young goalkeeper’s future.

Hein has only made one senior appearance for the Gunners – he played 90 minutes in a 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the EFL Cup in 2022.

But when speaking to Arsenal’s club website last June, Edu said Hein was very popular behind the scenes.

Edu shared: “We’re very happy that Karl will continue his development as an Arsenal player. He’s an exciting prospect and a popular member of the squad.

“We look forward to seeing him progress to the next stage of his career.”

And whilst Hein won’t necessarily be missed from a first-team playing perspective in north London, his eventual departure is now a good opportunity for Berta to raise funds.
