Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Massimiliano Allegri chose AC Milan in the summer ‘out of love’ rather than waiting for the Inter job.
Ahead of a crucial summer, Milan chose to overhaul their management by hiring a new sporting director and head coach. Igli Tare was the man chosen for the former role, and he quickly accelerated to bring Allegri back to the club as Sergio Conceicao’s replacement.
Romano revealed the background story on the show ‘La Trattativa’ on Tim Podcast. The well-known journalist explained how, in the days leading up to the Nerazzurri’s Champions League final, Allegri could have waited to understand Simone Inzaghi’s future, but he chose Milan.
“Allegri could have waited three, four, or five days. Inter were in the Champions League final, and he could have made his choice based on Inzaghi’s future. Instead, that Thursday he chose Milan: it was take it or leave it,” he said (via Tribuna).
It was a decision made on impulse, but driven by a strong personal motivation, as the journalist added: “He chose Milan also out of love, out of passion for a project that particularly appeals to him.”
Inter, in the meantime, chose to wait for a decision from Inzaghi before then moving on to Cristian Chivu, who joined them from Parma. Both Milanese clubs at the moment can be happy with their choice.
