After landing one of the nation’s top pass catchers a year ago with Ryan Wingo, Chris Jackson has once again struck gold with the commitment of five-star receiver Kaliq Lockett to the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday in an announcement on the 247Sports YouTube channel.
In fact, it was Jackson who made Lockett’s pledge public on the phone with the elite prospect.
“I chose Texas because I believe in what Coach Sark is doing and I believe with Coach Jackson and his NFL resume, he can take me to being one of the best receivers in college football,” said Lockett.
Lockett is a physical specimen, coveted by some of the top teams in the country, boasting 31 offers ahead of his commitment. He narrowed the field to five schools, taking visits with the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, Florida State Seminoles, and Alabama Crimson Tide, before closing the visit window with a weekend on the Forty Acres.
His time in Austin seemingly was enough to push him over the edge for the Longhorns.
The 6’2, 175-pound receiver is a massive target for quarterbacks, boasting a 6’7 wingspan on top of his sprinter’s speed. He logged snaps for Sachse as a freshman and sophomore, but truly burst onto the scene as a junior with 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns on only 59 receptions. He also competes on the track for the Mustangs, turning in a 23-second 200-meter as a junior and competing on the 4×100 and 4×200 sprint relay teams.
