Santiago Gimenez has certainly shown signs that he can lead AC Milan forward in years to come, however, he has also shown that he is not completely ready just yet.
In the first few games after joining the club, Gimenez seemed to possess a sense of inevitability, and a fantastic opening spell saw him lead the team when everyone else seemingly couldn’t. Contributions in the Coppa Italia, Champions League and Serie A made his price tag and arrival seem like a solution, but this has faded a little.
is not a case of Gimenez now being a ‘bad’ player, far from that, but perhaps, there needs to be an alternative ready during expected patches of bad form. This argument is also strengthened by the fact that all three of Milan’s alternative options probably will leave the club in the summer.
As Tuttosport (via Milan News) reports, Tammy Abraham probably will not stay at the club if Roma ask for more than €20 million, Luka Jovic will not be renewed again in the summer, and Francesco Camarda seems likely to head away on loan.
So, an alternative is needed to Gimenez and the report suggests that there are two formidable ideas – Lorenzo Lucca and Nikola Krstovic.
Both were sought in January, according to reports, but a move never occurred, perhaps in the summer, with a new head coach, they will find their moment.
