Why De Bruyne will not join Inter as a free agent

Kevin De Bruyne will leave Manchester City after 10 years at the end of the 2024-25 season, but the Belgian star is not expected to move to Serie A, despite some suggestions that he could be a potential target for Inter as a free agent.

De Bruyne, considered one of the Premier League’s greatest ever midfielders, announced on Friday that he will be leaving Manchester City at the end of his current contract, which expires at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

A six-time Premier League winner, De Bruyne is expected to be one of the most sought-after free agents this summer, but early indications suggest that the 33-year-old will not play in Europe after leaving City.

Several MLS sides are understood to be interested, including Inter Miami, LA Galaxy, LAFC and San Diego FC, as well as a series of clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

A move to Serie A is unlikely, and a move to Inter specifically is not expected to happen, as the Nerazzurri’s current owners, Oaktree, will not sign off on substantial contract offers to ‘short-term’ players above the age of 30
